AN-316 CANOpen IO Setup Guide
There are 2 modes of CAN operation available:
1. Trio CANbus protocol. This is the default protocol and is tailored for the high performance Input/Output needed in a Motion System.
2. CanOpen to Can in Automation standards CiA301 and CiA401.
Option 2 allows more flexibility in that the CAN network will support a mixture of Trio CAN IO modules and third party CanOpen modules.
This document describes how to set up the MC4xx or MC6xx Motion Coordinator for use with CiA 401 CanOpen Input/Output modules.
The MC464 has only 16 CAN buffers in the CANbus port. For this reason, the details in this document all refer to the ARM based MC4 and MC6 range Motion Coordinators which have up to 64 CAN buffers.
