I found that I cannot use VR(64) on an MC508. No matter what I write to it, it gets zeroed immediately, I assume by the controller. Has anyone else encountered this?

I had a Maple Systems HMI5040B connected over Ethernet, but I wasn't using that VR so I don't think it was the cause. The machine has shipped so I'm just curious to know why this was happening.
